My nude paintings address the eternal problem of the depictability of reality; this is what I sought to express with the dramatic, theatrical scene with powerful gestures set in a landscape and revisiting a ’tradition of my choice’. The characters I used for my work titled Origin evoked the movements of the Laocoön Group but my painting no longer represents the idea of the final struggle but rather that of sharing the same roots and eternal birth. The characters were part of an idealised landscape, while, using the painter’s tools of creating an illusion, I strove to separate the figures, as if they were sculptures, from nature surrounding them.
