Imre Kéri

Munkácsy Award laureate painter and etcher | 1945, Budapest

Every morning I am driven to my unfinished work by curiosity and discontent. In more recent times, especially in the last thirty years or so, my days are filled with the technique called mezzotint. It is an intaglio printmaking process, which was invented in 1642 and is the ’grandfather’ of the pixel, or at least I think so. The 75 years of my life have not been enough yet for me to achieve wisdom, enlightenment and salvation. In any case, painting and etching are forms of self-therapy, dream worlds and activities filled with peace.
